2004
On 30th September 2004, Amicus hosted the inaugural Lime, a dinner dance to raise funds for the charity’s activities.

The money raised that night enabled us to extend
significantly our activities, underpinned by the ability to staff our office with an Executive Officer continually since the end of 2004. Our Executive Officer’s focus on extending our relationships with US law offices, liaising with potential and active interns and developing our training programme has meant that we have increased greatly our reach.

Since Lime 2004 (up to May 2007), we have placed 53 interns in the US for internships of between three and 18 months – and another 11 placements are already arranged for summer 2007 onwards.

We have introduced regional introductory training days. These, alongside our London - and Birmingham - based training courses, have trained over 500 people on issues surrounding the death penalty in preparation for internships (including for those not being placed by Amicus) and UK-based casework.

We have held a variety of events across the UK to address the national interest in our work, including a series of talks by Juan Melendez who was exonerated from Florida’s death row after almost 18 years behind bars.

Quite simply, Lime 2004 enabled us provide desperately needed assistance.
